Wardrobe staples for Spring and Summer

wardrobe essentials for spring and summer

Hello and welcome back to The Visual Aspect! Today we are going to talk about wardrobe staples for spring and summer. I am also going to include how and where you can get those items on sale right now. Although most of the spring season has been spent indoors, summer is on the way and these are tips you can use for the spring and summer seasons to come.

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, basically every retailer is having a sale right now. Since many of the stores are closed and these retailers need to keep the revenue coming in. I am one that loves to shop end of the season sales and discounted items. So, this is huge! I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity and time to freshen up my staple pieces and maybe add a few trend pieces in there as well. A principle that I live and shop by, is shopping offseason. The reason being is you can find some amazing high-quality pieces at a fraction of the cost. I have shared that with you many times over the years and it never fails.

If you have been looking to refresh your spring and summer wardrobe and staple pieces the time is now. I also want to bring up the point that this is also a challenging time for most and spending money on clothes is not everyone’s top priority. I totally understand that and if that is where you are at do not feel pressured to shop. However, if you are in the position to put some funds towards your wardrobe, I got you, girl!

This post will be sort of like a round-up post. I will cover each section of your wardrobe and talk about which staple pieces are best for the spring and summer season. Then I will add which retailers I love to shop at and what sales they have going on right now:) This will be fun and give you the chance to review what you have going on in your closet, and find out what areas you want to improve in. For me, I really lacked when it comes to tops, so I bought several nice blouses from Zara and Nasty Gal. It’s all about feeling confident in your wardrobe, not perfection!

Okay, lets get started on this list of wardrobe staples for spring and summer!

Tops

Three styles I am investing in are cropped tank tops, graphic tees and statement tops.

Cropped tank tops are the perfect staple to wear in this warmer weather and layer under jackets. I love pairing these with my high waisted shorts or mom jeans.

Graphic tees are where you can let your personality shine! I love finding different graphic tees that speak to me whether that’s a cool band tee or a SATC quote from Carrie Bradshaw. It’s so fun to dress graphic tees up or easily dress them down. They pull together an outfit seamlessly.

Statement tops/blouses are another favorite of mine this season. They are so much fun to style and brings a bit more of an edge to a staple blouse. Instead of only wearing a simple button-up white blouse, get a style that has some volume in the sleeves. If I worked in a job that required me to dress business professionally, I would be all over this! I got to have some fun with your outfits no matter the environment 🙂
Here are my favorites
Striped Ruffle Shirt
Blouse With Tie
Lace Insert Poplin Shirt

Bottoms

A couple of styles I am investing in is jeans (straight leg, wide leg, mom jeans) and high-waisted trousers, and shorts (denim and other fabrics).

Jeans will be a staple of your wardrobe until the end of time. What I am focusing on this season is different styles when it comes to the leg. I am glad that the skinny jean isn’t the end all be all and different jean styles are coming to the front. I would have a straight leg pair and a wide-leg pair of jeans in my closet. If there is a style you’ve had your eye on that a bit different, I say go for it!

Trousers are a great alternative for pants as I don’t always want to wear jeans. I love the high waisted style from Zara because they are extremely flattering.

What I need are more jean shorts! The ones that I have are literally falling apart and I don’t feel comfortable in them any longer. I recently picked up a pair from Nasty gal that I’m loving so far. I am also going to get a pair of mom shorts from Pacsun or Abercrombie. Leather shorts are great in the springtime because the weather is cut out for that. But as it gets warmer, I just got for a pair that is a lighter fabric.

Up next on the list for wardrobe staples for spring and summer…

Jackets

Denim jackets are where it’s at! I have an oversized style that I wear all the time and year-round. This is a staple worth investing in because you will get soo much use from a denim jacket. I would also recommend a cropped style if you are looking to switch it up.

Shoes

Mules, Mules, and more mules! They come in flats, heels, wedges, basically any style you like. This is the shoes of the season and I see myself wearing these Spring through Fall. Or until it gets too cold to have my feet out. I have bought two different styles of mules, one with a heel and one flat. I already know as soon as I am let outside again, I will be wearing them ALOT!

Accessories

The accessories I am investing in are a crossbody bag some gold jewelry, and a new pair of sunnies.

Crossbody bags are so clutch especially with going to all the different summer activities. I like to have my hands free to drink a beer and do whatever else haha Crossbody bags are super cute and just have the essentials on you.

My jewelry needed an upgrade! To be honest my jewelry collection is somewhat always lacking…It’s the last place I invest in but I’m always wondering why I have such a little amount to choose from. Soooo I added a few pieces to the bunch, ESPECIALLY since these sales got me spending pennies on it haha. I got a few statement earrings and 2 gold necklaces, which should be enough to make my little jewelry collection pop!

Sunnies are a must-have for the season and just everyday life. I had several pairs from QUAY but after a lot of trips to the lake and pools, they were looking tiredddd. So, I stopped y target recently and picked up to pairs for a decent price! One pair was an aviator style because that frames my face perfectly. The other was more of an oval/hectogon shaped pair that was different but looks great on my face. Now I am ready to take on any activity!

Okay, so here’s what is next…First, you don’t need to go out and buy all these things. Look at the areas that are lacking in your wardrobe and pick a few items that you want to freshen up. Yes, these sales are good, and you want to take advantage but let’s also be smart about our coin’s girl! I hope this brought you value and that you have an understanding of what your wardrobe staples should be for spring and summer.

Remember, it’s all about feeling confident in your wardrobe, not perfection. See you next time!
