Classic Style and Sustainability

Hello! I hope you have been having a great week so far. It has been a pretty busy week for me so far, but I have been enjoying this amazing crisp and cool weather. Last weekend I shot this suit set from Theory and I absolutely love it! I have been wanting to wear the blazer for a while now but I wanted to get some pictures before I incorporate it into my everyday wardrobe.

What I really want to focus on is the fact that Theory has been taking the initiative in being more a sustainable company. From how they source their materials for textiles to their manufacturing processes. Theory is starting with their Good Wool, which is a collection of suit separates and dresses. These items have been made with the finest wool that is responsibly sourced from the Beaufront Farm in the Italian Alps. There is an entire page on their website dedicated to this story and you can read more details HERE!

What does sustainability mean?

The definition that stood out to me is the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.” What does that mean to me in terms of fashion? It is being conscious of what you are buying and how do you dispose of the clothing, etc that you no longer want. A mega brand that is being more sensitive and aware of this is H&M. They are changing the narrative when it comes to the fast fashion industry.  H&M has made huge strides in becoming more sustainable. Their goal is to only use recycled materials or sustainably sourced materials by 2030.

What part can you play in all of this?

See if your local retailer is accepting donations of your old clothes to recycle. You can take your older clothing that you no longer want and donate it at H&M stores and receive a discount of a certain amount on your next purchase. I believe Madewell and Theory accept old merchandise back and gives you a discount on future purchases as well. When you are going shopping this holiday season (or at any time of the year), consolidate your bags. You don’t need a bag from every single store you shop at. Just try to fit everything into fewer bags as possible. Especially those single-use plastics!

And once you are done with any packing or bags RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE!

If these enormous companies can begin to make efforts and take action, you and I can also make better choices:)

I hope this was educational for you and let me know what your thoughts are on sustainability below!
